How Egypt's First Little People Diving Team Made History

Egypt has witnessed a remarkable story of inclusion and achievement through the creation of the first scuba diving team formed entirely by little people. Known as “The Seven Dwarfs Underwater,” this groundbreaking initiative has become a powerful example of how sports can transform lives and break stereotypes.

The Beginning of the Initiative

The idea originated with international diving instructor Ahmed Ali El Koury, who strongly believed that little people can master scuba diving just like any other diver. With the support of Negoum El Kheir Association, the initiative gained momentum and was officially presented during a public festival in Sharm El Sheikh.

Professional Diving Training Program

From vision to execution, the technical training was fully designed and supervised by Captain Essam Nashat, a certified diving trainer known for his structured and professional coaching approach. The training program included classroom sessions, confined-water training, and open-water dives conducted in Alexandria and Sharm El Sheikh.

Achieving CMAS Certification

Upon completing the program, the divers earned the CMAS One-Star Diver certification, accredited by the Egyptian Diving & Lifesaving Federation. This achievement officially made them the first little people diving team in Egypt to reach an internationally recognized scuba diving certification level.

Breaking Barriers Through Inclusion

The team consists of seven determined young men and women from the little people community who were motivated to challenge stereotypes and explore the underwater world. Leading the group was Mohamed Sayed “Mezo,” whose dedication helped strengthen team spirit and commitment throughout the training journey.

The Legacy of The Seven Dwarfs Underwater

More than a diving project, The Seven Dwarfs Underwater represents empowerment through education, professional training, and equal opportunities. The initiative demonstrates that determination is stronger than limitations and that sport can play a vital role in changing lives.

Today, The Seven Dwarfs Underwater stands as a symbol of hope and possibility, proving that with guidance, support, and belief, every individual can achieve extraordinary goals regardless of physical differences.

Media Coverage and Public Recognition

The Seven Dwarfs Underwater initiative received widespread media attention across Egypt and the Arab world. Several major news organizations highlighted the project's impact on sports inclusion, equal opportunities, and the successful training of Egypt's first scuba diving team composed entirely of little people.
